Waterford residents plead for guardrail for dangerous curve

WATERFORD TWP., Mich. (WJBK) - Some residents in the quiet lake community of Waterford Township say they fear for their safety - but it has nothing to do with crime.

In one week Melissa McIssac says two vehicles ignored stop signs at this intersection forcing their way onto her property.

"We consistently have accidents here," she said. "On Tuesday I was almost pinned between our cars in our driveway because the car flew through our flower bed hit both our cars."

She's not alone, her neighbor says he's also been a victim 

"Teetering on the fence and literally knocking some of the two rows off the rocks," said Jeff Moss. 

During the interview Moss saw yet another vehicle go through the stop sign.

"Well there you go," he said.

But McIssac says despite a number of complaints to the Road Commission of Oakland County.  They refuse to put up guard rail

"Do you not see a need for a guard rail to protect personal property," she said.

But the road commission believes a guard rail could cause even more problems.  In a statement to FOX 2, it said a guardrail at this location, if hit head-on, could cause a vehicle to roll over or be deflected into on-coming traffic.

The Road Commission also says it will be installing additional pavement markings on the roadway and a 'Stop Ahead" sign to be placed in advance of the All-Way Stop for southbound Watkins Lake Road. 

But McIssac says if change doesn't come soon then her family may have to leave their home.
