Wayne County Clerk's Office closed, source says its bed bugs
WAYNE COUNTY (WJBK) - Officials say an environmental concern has closed the Wayne County Clerk's Office but people inside say it's infested with bed bugs.
Wayne County residents hoping to get business taken care of were turned away at the door on Monday with little to no explanation. People like Rob Tiede who lives in Grosse Pointe and was trying to take care of some things for his business.
"I'm a business man from Grosse Pointe and I was just out here trying to file some papers and to tell you this closure is a tremendous inconvenience," Tiede said. "There was no advance notice so I wasted a ton of time coming down here nothing at all."
Despite going downtown, he found the clerk's office locked and a sign saying it was closed for the day. County officials wouldn't tell us exactly why it's closed but would only say it was an "environmental concern".
According to a source, an exterminator came through to rid the office of bed bugs.
County employees haven't returned our calls and would not answer our questions about the severity. Businesses and individuals from all over the county are upset by the lack of notice and information.
"Nobody's told me when it's going to be open. I hope it's open tomorrow because I have to file my paperwork," Detroiter Deante Reed said.
They want the county to inform them soon, how they will be able to get their business done of as quickly as possible.
"I've got to file for my DBA. To open a business in Detroit. Of all things, that's what they need, isn't it? In Detroit, they need more business? Right?" Ruth Roadman said.
Officials would not offer any information about whether they would be open on Tuesday.
