Well-known interior designer found stabbed outside his home

Police in Grosse Pointe Farms are investigating after a well-known interior designer was found badly beaten and stabbed outside of his home Sunday night.

Police say Daniel E. Clancy was found on the sidewalk, brutally beaten with three stab wounds to his neck outside of his home on Voltaire Place, which is near the intersection of Kercheval Avenue and Kerby Road.

According to Grosse Pointe Farms Police, Clancy was returning home from a shopping trip around 4 p.m. Sunday when he was approached by at least one other person. The two went inside the 69-year-old's 8,400 square foot house, and some sort of fight or struggle broke out. Clancy was found injured and his hands were bound with duct tape.

He was rushed to the hospital. Doctors originally did not expect him to survive, but he made it through surgery and is currently in critical condition.

Police aren't sure of a motive at this time, or how many attackers they're looking for. They're asking anyone who may have information to call police at 313-885-2100.
