Woman charged after Ray's Ice Cream shop assault

(WJBK) - The Bloomfield Township woman accused of angry outbursts at multiple dessert counters in the metro Detroit area was in court Thursday morning.

Tricia Kortes was arraigned on assault and battery charges and posted bond for the most recent accusation against her.

That accusation stems from a 2015 incident, in which an employee at Ray's Ice Cream in Royal Oak was hit on the head after a customer became aggravated when she was told the shop was out of her favorite ice cream flavor.

Ice cream employees never knew the woman's name, but recently recognized her in the news after an incident at a Kroger in Bloomfield Township.

Kortes was charged with disorderly conduct in June of 2016 after she allegedly drop kicked a birthday cake at the Kroger. Employees said she was upset with the way it turned out and that she blamed employees for "ruining her son's birthday cake."

She's been charged with assault and battery in the ice cream shop incident. She turned herself into police Thursday after the Ray's Ice Cream employee recognized her and contact the Royal Oak Police, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

She's been charged with one count of assault and battery, which is a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to 93 days in jail and up to a $500 fine.

Her bond was set at $1,000.

Kortes is due back in court September 12.
