Detroit police are investigating after a woman was found severely injured in a backyard on the city's west side. Police aren't sure if she was assaulted or hit by a car.

Police say some of the woman's clothes were off when she was found in the back of a house in the 3,400 block of Cicotte Street, which is near Livernois Avenue and John Kronk Street. She was around around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police say she has serious injuries to her face and head, and that she is in extremely critical condition.

Police have not named the woman, but say she is a black female between the ages of 30-50. Because of the injuries to her face, police say it is hard to give a more precise range of age.

"She was found partially disrobed and it appeared she was physically assaulted," said Capt. Rodney Cox, Detroit police. "She was not conscious at the time and was transported to the hospital for medical attention.
