Woman rescued in Trenton after car crashes into Detroit River

An officer rescued a woman from a vehicle that was sinking in the Detroit River on Monday afternoon.

Trenton Police said around 3:45 p.m. they received a call about a vehicle in the river at Riverside Drive and West Road in Trenton.

Police said officers arrived and saw a woman in the vehicle in the water. An officer found a kayak in the area and paddled out to the vehicle, then broke a window and rescued her.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, according to Trenton police. Her condition is not known but she was conscious before leaving the scene. The officer was treated at the scene and released.

The incident is under investigation.
