Wounded man drives to police station for help after shooting

A gunshot victim drove himself to the Detroit Police Department’s second precinct off Grand River on the city’s west side Tuesday afternoon, literally pulling his Dodge Charger onto the sidewalk.

“He drove himself here but he couldn't even get out of the car. He was just beeping the horn. So they immediately came out rendered first aid,” said Captain John Serda, Detroit Police Department.

Rather than wait for an ambulance, police drove the victim to Sinai Grace Hospital where he was last listed in critical condition.

“I think the officers really did an outstanding job.”

“I think he could have bled out if we’d waited much longer.”

Police say the man was shot in his car a few blocks away at Grand River and Steel. There was also a woman in the car that was shot. Her injuries were not as severe.

Authorities say she was not in the car when the man pulled up to the precinct.

Meanwhile, police were able to arrest the suspect about an hour after the shooting.

“The victim was able to provide some information that our officers acted on immediately.”
