Wrong way driver kills two in crash on 275, MSP says

Michigan State Police said a wrong way driver killed another driver on 275 Tuesday morning. The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed as police investigate.

Michigan State Police said a wrong-way driver caused a fatal crash on I-275 Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of two people.

Michigan State Police said a wrong way driver got on I-275 and went south in the northbound lanes near Michigan Avenue. According to police, the driver hit another vehicle head-on, killing the other driver and a passenger.

Police have not yet named the victims, but say the female driver and a male passenger were killed instantly. 

The person going the wrong was is a 59-year-old man from Wolverine Lake, and that he has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to officials.

Police say open alcohol was found in the suspect's vehicle. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. 

The highway was closed for hours after the accident Tuesday, but reopened just after 2 p.m.
