LISTEN: Detroit Lions select LB Jahlani Tavai in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WJBK) - The Detroit Lions select LB Jahlani Tavai out of Hawaii with the 43rd overall pick in the secound round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Tavai, 6'4" 245 pounds, played five years at the University of Hawaii and redshirted his freshman year, but grew up in southern California. He had 82 tackles his senior year and two sacks, but he only played in eight games due to a shoulder injury. The last two seasons he was named the team's defensive MVP by Head Coach Bob Wagner.
In total he had 378 tackles, 5 pass deflections, 17.5 sacks, 3 forced and 2 interceptions during his four seasons at Hawaii.
The Lions next pick in the third round, 88th overall.
