WATCH: Verlander 'Detroit is always going to have a place in my heart'

Former Tigers star and current Astros pitcher Justin Verlander spoke to the media on Friday as he faces his former team for the first time since being traded last season.

"I still pay attention," Verlander said. "Detroit is always going to have a place in my heart and I'm always rooting for that organization. I definitely keep following to see what's going on."

Verlander, who won a World Series ring last season with the Astros, has a 2.05 ERA with a 9-4 record while striking out 160 and only walking 24.

"I was concerned with how the fans would react," Verlander said on waving his no trade clause before being traded. "I wanted to leave on a good note and not leave a sour taste in their mouth."

Even though the seven-time All-Star was selected to the All-Star game this season, he won't pitch in it because he's starting Sunday against the Tigers.

"It's going to be interesting."

And if he regrets being traded to Houston.

"No."
