Detroit Zoo, Belle Isle Nature Center again closed due to bitter cold
ROYAL OAK, Mich. (FOX 2) - The Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center are closed Wednesday due to extreme cold.
Both zoos were also closed Tuesday because of weather. Southeast Michigan is under an Extreme Cold Advisory until noon Wednesday as wind chills dip well into the negative double digits.
Animal care team members and other essential staff will remain at both locations during the closure.

Weather Forecast:
Wind chills could dip as low as -20 in some areas Wednesday morning.
As the day progresses, the cold will ease just a bit.
Highs will climb to around 12 later in the day. However, gusty winds will keep wind chills firmly below zero. It will feel like -10 even when the highs reach the double digits.

What's next:
Zoo leadership will monitor the weather forecast and decide when it is safe to reopen.
Those who had purchased tickets to visit the zoo on Tuesday will have their tickets honored for a later visit. Refunds will not be issued.
