Sunny with temps in the 90s today, schools dismissing early

The FOX 2 Weather Authority Team says temperatures are going to heat up quickly today, and will linger for the next couple days. Skies will be pretty sunny all day long and that humidity will be out, too. There is a small chance for some showers later tonight, and tomorrow and Thursday, too.

Temps are expected to be in the mid-80s by noon already today, with the high temperatures reaching around 90 later in the afternoon. The heat index will be in the mid-90s.

You can get the full forecast for the day by watching Alan Longstreet's report in the video player above

An air quality alert is also in effect today in southeast Michigan. That means pollutants are expected to be in the unhealthy range for sensitive groups, such as those with asthma. You're urged to avoid activities that lead to ozone formation on these types of days. These activities include refueling your car, using gas-powered lawn equipment or charcoal lighter fluid.

Due to the heat, dozens of Detroit Public Schools are closing early Tuesday. You can find a full list of schools affected below, or by visiting our School Closings page at www.fox2detroit.com/closings.

The Detroit Public Schools' Office of School Nutrition says it will will assist all schools with distributing water in the classrooms, providing bottled water for field trips, and will allow students to take bottled water when they leave for the day.
