Cooking with Curry Fresh, packaged Indian cuisine

Curry Fresh is the first company to fresh package Indian Cuisine. 

Founder Priya Ranjan Dass joined us on The Nine to tell us more about his products, and to show us how they can be used in different recipes. You can hear more from him in the video player above, and get an example of a simple chickpeas curry and rice recipe below. 

1. Parboiled*  Basmati Rice-2 lbs- $2
Parboiled is called Sela rice too, it has glycemic index (GI) of 38 against 56 for Brown rice, 89 for White Rice. As we say go for #SlowCarb (anything with GI between 20 to 60) not Low Carb. Indian grocery stores could be the best place to buy Sela Basmati rice.

Its Fresh Indian food with no preservatives or food additives. We use HPP, high pressure pasteurization to get the shelf- life of 90 days in refrigeration,  yes you can freeze it too. You have freedom to choose your grain, protein or vegetables. 
You start with Rice as it takes 15-20 minutes. First, rinse the Rice and then measure it with the measuring cup. The yield is almost  300% of the raw rice. So for family of 4, 1 pound raw rice is good enough. Like we Indians or Asian eat lot more rice. Add twice of water from the same measurement tool whatever you have used for rice. Cover the pot and keep your burner on Medium heat. Keep an eye as some water would spill. If you use rice cooker,  then you don't have to worry. 

Chickpeas is ready to use but if you have vegetables you need to stir fry. 

Your Curry is ready to go too. Put Mother' Curry in a Pan, only thing to add for you is salt, red chilli powder if you want a bit spicier or water if you want more liquidy. You can use Curry as dressing, dip or your barbecue sauce too as it makes anything instantly flavorful.

Mix with Chickpeas or vegetables and simmer it for 4-5 minutes. 

Ball-park your rice may be ready by then. So you can serve tasty & nutritious dinner now to your family.
