DPS students competing in cooking contest

Some Detroit high school students are trying to cook their way to Washington, D.C. It's part of a cooking competition called Cooking Up Change.

The winning team will not only have their meal served at Detroit Public Schools, but the winners will also get an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC to compete in the national competition. Some of these students have never traveled outside of their city, so this is an opportunity of a lifetime to travel, meet congressional leaders and visit the sites around Washington.

Chicken Shawarma
INGREDIENTS
2.25 oz. diced chicken meat
1/8 cup vanilla yogurt
3/4 tsp. minced garlic
1/8 tsp. Cayenne pepper
1/8 tsp curry powder
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp paprika
1 Tbs. mayonaisse
1 1/2 tsp dijon mustard
1 9" flour tortilla

DIRECTIONS
1. Whisk yogurt, garlic, spices, Mayonnaise and Dijon Mustard. Toss Chicken in yogurt mix.
2. Pan fry chicken until semi-dry. 
3. Serve on a 9" Tortilla and roll up.
4. Serve with cucumber/tomato salad. Can be put on the shawarma or served as a salad on the side.
