Should couples keep secret money stashes?

When it comes to relationships, talking about money can be a tough issue.

Dr. Terri Orbuch, the love doctor, says it's the number one source of tention and 75 percent of couples say money causes conflict.

A topic discussed on The Nine was whether or not partners should keep secret stashes of money?

Orbuch believes you can have a separate account so you can buy yourself things without having to ask your partner, but should it be secret? No. She says it goes against trust and transparency.

Maurielle says there's a school of thought that you should in case of emergency - it's not just money to buy things.

When she asked the couples involved her 30-study, Orbuch says they report keeping a separate stash is OK.
