Unicorn-themed gift shop in Ypsilanti becomes most magical place in town

The world can't always be rainbows and unicorns. Or can it?

Ypsilanti's newest gift shop is the talk of the town. After being featured on Only In Your State and going viral on social media, for spring break families are driving from as far away as east Lansing and Romeo to check out Unicorn Feed Supply. (That's about a 90 minute drive!)

The day we visited the shop on Michigan Avenue, it was packed. Its success comes from the passion that just pours out of owner Jen Eastridge.

"This is literally my dream project. I'm having fun and I'm also figuring out how to do it as I go," she told us. The shop has its first anniversary coming up in June.

Jen says her most favorite childhood belonging was her inspiration.

"One of the things I actually kept was my childhood sticker album. Out of all the things, and I actually have it here in the shop because people always ask me, 'What's the origin of the shop?' And really, the sticker album from my childhood is the origin and it's hilarious but it just makes me so happy," she told us.

What began as a childhood dream of opening up a sweet sticker shop, The Unicorn Feed Supply quickly manifested into something more magical.

"I realized it's much bigger than just stickers, it's going to be plush; it's going to be all things sparkly and pretty; I wanted to have a mermaid section; I wanted to have a fairy garden; I wanted to have an amazing plush and just beautiful things that make people smile and brighten their day.

"And so the question came up, why? Why did I keep that [sticker book]? And it is just that simple; it's because it feeds my happy place. So that's what we tell people: feed your unicorn; feed your happy place. So that was the origin of the name of the shop, Unicorn Feed and Supply. This is truly just here to just help people feed their happy place."
