2 Walled Lake schools placed under shelter-in-place after bank robbery

Two Walked Lake Schools were placed under a shelter-in-place Friday afternoon after a nearby bank robbery.

The schools affected include Walnut Creek Middle School and Pleasant Lake Elementary School.

A spokeswoman for the Walled Lake Consolidated School District said a bank robbery suspect was on foot. The robbery happened near Maple and Haggerty roads.

All school building exterior doors were locked, but school activity continued normally.

"We will stay in shelter-in-place for the remainder of the school day and will have law enforcement officials at both schools. All students are safe and school is continuing without disruption," said district spokeswoman Judy Evola.

Evola said Guest Elementary School was having indoor recess as a precaution, but is not under a shelter-in-place.
