20-year-old man drowns at Stony Creek Metropark
SHELBY CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - On Saturday Macomb County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding two males swimming at Stony Creek that were struggling to stay above water.
The sheriff deputies along with Metro Park Police responded to the area of Winter Cove picnic area.
A 20-year-old white male from Warren had made it to shore safely with the assistance of a nearby boater.
The second male, Rayven Elia, 20, of Sterling Heights, was located by search and rescue personnel.
It is believed that Elia was underwater for approximately 15 minutes. Upon being pulled to shore, CPR was performed and he was transported to the hospital.
Elia died early on Sunday.
It is believed that both males became tangled in some heavy vegetation while swimming which caused them to have difficulties swimming. Neither male was wearing a life jacket.
This incident remains under investigation.
