$310M boutique hotel planned for Midtown Detroit

The Mid, 228-room luxury hotel will be built just north of Mack and Woodward Ave in Midtown Detroit.

A luxury boutique hotel, condos, housing, and more are planned for a $310 million project in Midtown Detroit dubbed "The Mid".

Plans for The Mid were announced Thursday in Detroit for a 3.8-acre development at 3750 Woodward Ave. near Whole Foods in Midtown just north of Mack.

The mixed-use development is expected to create 1,800 construction jobs and 400 permanent jobs.

The Mid will include 250 multi-family residences, including affordable housing, 60 high-end luxury condos, and the 228-room hotel which is expected to be 216,000 square feet that also includes a dining venue and cocktail lounge.

The Mid is going to inspired by Midtown's music, art, history, and culture, developers say, and aims to bring together the community and residents to the area.

"There was a real opportunity in Midtown to address a number of community needs, from housing and retail, to inclusive public spaces creating a walkable, welcoming, uplifting space," said Shane Napper, development manager, 3750 Woodward Ave, LLC. "The Mid is a very ambitious project with a distinctive personality designed to celebrate the community and give visitors to the area a memorable Detroit experience."

Groundbreaking is expected to take place this summer with the proejct slated to be completed by December 2020.
