More measles cases have been confirmed in Oakland County.

In a press release sent late Thursday night, the Michigan Department of Health and Human services reports four additional cases in the county, with three other cases currently under investigation.

The cases are related to the travel-case announced a week ago. The exposures may have occurred in several metro Detroit locations in Oak Park, Southfield, Berkley and Royal Oak.

A first reported case of the disease was on March 13, when the MDHHS confirmed an individual had visited New York and Israel before returning to Michigan. Several of the same locations were cited as potential areas of exposure.

The department recommends that individuals who were possibly exposed to watch for symptoms 21 days after the incident. Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease that is spread through direct person-to-person contact as well as through sneezing and coughing.

Symptoms include: High Fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, tiny white spots on the inside of the mouth and red blotchy rashes.

Doctors recommend if you think you might have been exposed to call the office, rather than visit, in order to avoid passing along the disease further. A complete list of potential exposure locations, dates and times are included below:
