Arrest made after hit-and-run injures Detroit police officer

A man has been arrested after a hit-and-run involving two police officers late Tuesday night. One officer had to be cut from the vehicle and taken to the hospital.

The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. about a block away from the 11th Precinct. We're told the officers had just left the station and were headed eastbound on Nevada when the driver of a white Chevy Malibu, going the other direction, turned left and hit the squad car on the driver's side.

The airbags deployed, and the female officer driving had to be cut from the vehicle. Her arm was injured and she was taken to the hospital. Sources say she has already been released and is recovering at home.

Her male partner wasn't injured.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu jumped out and ran away from the scene of the accident.

Police say he was later found and arrested a couple miles away from the accident scene, at a gas station at Savage and Van Dyke.

Police haven't yet given the name of the suspect, nor the officers involved in the accident.
