Baby boy dies from head fractures, father is person of interest

An 8-month-old baby is dead; the father is in police custody considered a person of interest in his death.

The police were originally told the baby fell off a bed but he wasn't breathing. His injuries were incredibly serious and he had sustained head fractures.

The incident happened 1 a.m. Tuesday in the 11600 block of Laing on Detroit's east side.  The father, 31-year-old Dominque Hardy is being held by police.

Authorities determined the baby had been physically abused. The baby died two days later.

"It's sad, an 8-month-old baby, it's sad," said Brittani Dismuke, the next door neighbor. "When I was pulling in, I did see an ambulance carrying the baby out."

On Friday FOX 2 went back to the house where Hardy lives. The woman on the other side of the door said she didn't know anything and that she wasn’t at the house at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile the next door neighbor says Hardy has lived at the house for less than a year.

"I see him plenty of times, but I never had a conversation with him though," Dismuke said. "I saw other kids around playing outside but that was the first time I saw the baby. The first time I saw the baby was when they carried it out."
