Belle Isle temporarily closed due to overcrowding

Belle Isle has been temporarily closed due to overcrowding, according to police.

Around 4:20 p.m., Michigan State Police said Belle Isle Park has been closed due to overcrowding. Police say they will monitor the crowd and allow more people in as others leave.

Belle Isle is the largest city-owned island park in the United States, sitting at 982 acres. It's 100 acres larger than New York's Central Park. Attractions include an aquarium, conservatory, the William Livingstone Memorial Lighthouse, the Belle Isle Nature Center, and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum.
