Cancer survivor takes a sledgehammer to her tumor at Henry Ford Hospital

Beating cancer is a huge accomplishment on it's own - but now some patients at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit can take their celebration to a new level.

How does taking a sledgehammer to the tumor sound?

Okay, so it's not the actual tumor, but it is a 3D-printed replica. Survivors can choose to "beat cancer" with hammers, baseball bats or even sledge hammers.

We were there as Sheila Sky Kasselman, an 8-and-a-half year survivor of pancreatic cancer, crushed her replica tumor into powder.

"I think anytime that you can beat your tumor, in every sense of the word, would be very therapeutic," she says.

The Henry Ford Innovation Institute created the tumor and hopes to host more Smash Your Tumor sessions in the future.
