Convicted murder dies from hanging in Oakland County jail
(WJBK) - A 35-year-old Pontiac man was found dead the night before he was to be sentenced to life in prison for murder.
Kevin Jermaine Wiley was discovered by deputies critically injured by hanging just after midnight early Monday. He later died at McLaren Hospital. It was the night before he was to be sentenced to a life sentence.
Investigators say he had not been put on a suicide watch list, or shown signs of harming himself previously.
Wiley was convicted of murdering his girlfriend, Marie Elizabeth Colburn by strangulation on April 22, 2016. Her body was found stuffed in a closet inside her apartment on Ridgemont Drive by her mother.
Wiley then fled the state to Kentucky, where he was arrested by U.S. Marshals Western Kentucky Regional Task Force May 11 and extradited back to Michigan. He was convicted of murder on June 5, 2017.
