Detroit bicyclist shot to death; 30 rounds fired in ‘targeted’ hit

A Detroit bicyclist was surrounded and shot to death in broad daylight in what police called a targeted attack in Detroit's New Center area.

It was around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday on Woodward Ave near Grand Blvd when a man on a bike was surrounded by four men. Once they surrounded him, the four men opened fire, killing him in front of Exotic Liquor.

Police said the four suspects then ran off.

What we know:

Police said the victim was getting on his bike when a dark vehicle pulled up and four men jumped out and started shooting.

"Numerous shots, they then got back in the vehicle and fled southbound down Woodward," said Detroit Police Commander Matthew Fulgenzi.

The victim is a man in his 30s and never stood a chance.

"This appears he was targeted. This wasn’t a random act on the individual," Fulgenzi said.

The liquor store is a Green Light location and police are pursuing all leads.

"Citizens in this community are not going to tolerate this. It’s unacceptable in this community. we’re going to leverage every resource to hold these people accountable," he said.

What we don't know:

Police did not release the man's name and there isn't any possible motive known at this time.
