Detroit man charged with murder in crash that killed 2 kids

While family and friends continue to deal with the deaths of two Detroit kids and prepare for their funerals, Saturday the man accused of murdering them appeared before a judge for the first time. But this was by no means his first time in court.

29-year old Lorenzo Harris faces several charges, 16 to be exact. The charges stemming from Wednesday nights crash that killed 3-year-old Makiah Jackson and 6-year-old Michael Angelo Jackson. The crash also severely injured three other children who all happened to be outside at the time.

It's alleged Harris was trying to run from police when he plowed into the siblings who were riding their scooters on the sidewalk. He then struck three other children injuring them.

We are told the chase that ended in the 52-hundred block of Nottingham lasted only 62 seconds.

Court records show Harris has been in trouble with the law many times before for resisting police to assault and drug charges.

Harris' next court date is set for July 6th.

Detroit Police say its officers involved in the incident have been placed on restrictive duty pending an investigation into whether they followed department policy.
