Detroit man shot dead while talking to friend on city's east side

Detroit police are searching for the suspect behind a deadly shooting on the city's east side late Sunday.

Andre White, 50, was talking to a friend outside his home Sunday evening when someone drove up and began firing. They then drove off.

"I came here and saw him laying here," said one neighbor. "I wanted to go help him out but it was too late."

Detroit police say family identified the victim but information on the suspect or a motive behind the shooting remained a mystery. The shooting happened in the 17200 block of Charest, near McNichols.

Neighbors said they herd about six shots fired during the callous crime.

"Just gunshots - that's all I heard. I didn't even hear arguing with anyone," said a neighbor. "He was a good guy - always looked out for us never had any problems with him."

The suspect may have gotten into a white four-door Dodge Avenger before driving from the scene.
