The teen was inside a gold-colored Buick that was shot at just before 8 p.m. on Detroit's east side. Police released surveillance video showing how the crime unfolded.
Investigators believe the video provides clues into who could be involved in this crime.
"It looks like it may have been another vehicle involved a dark-colored pickup truck that may have blocked victim in, so he couldn't escape," said Deputy Chief David LeValley, Detroit police.
Police say as the victim’s vehicle is blocked from exiting the intersection. at that time the suspect approaches the victim's vehicle from the back and fires a number of shots into the vehicle, hitting the 15-year-old.
"There was a lone shooter on foot," LeValley said.
On video the pick-up truck makes a U-turn and leaves the scene. The victim made it to a KFC, and that's when emergency crews are called to the scene.
"He's in temporary serious condition at a hospital so we are talking to him," LeValley said.
And police want to talk to you. If you have any information on the shooter or the person in the pickup truck contact police immediately.
