Detroit police officer charged with second theft in 3 months
WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - For the second time in three months, a Detroit police officer has been charged and arraign with a felony larceny and is accused of stealing a cell phone.
According to Warren police, Michael Merritt, 40, was arraigned Tuesday for stealing a cell phone from a building in Warren. It's a felony larceny and he's been released on a $10,000 bond.
Merritt, a Detroit Police Officer, has been suspended without pay after originally being arrested in October. He's accused of stealing a hydraulic jack and tools from a truck parked in the police lot in September.
According to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's office, he took the equipment from the truck and then pulled his car around and loaded the tools into the back seat.
