Detroit police officer injured in shooting on Detroit's east side

Detroit police say one of its officers is ok after being shot in the foot Saturday.

The altercation which occurred at the intersection of Rosemary and Chalmers on the city's east side happened a little before 5 p.m. police say.

Sources say a 18-year-old suspect was also injured in the shooting after apparently exchanging gunfire with the police officer.

Both, the officer and the 18-year-old were transported to St. John hospital. The condition of the boy is not immediately known.  

It is unclear what led to the shooting however, police say Chief James Craig will be updating the media soon.
