Facebook, Uber offers ride service using Messenger

Two tech giants  teaming up to make your new year's eve celebration even easier.

Facebook is introducing a transportation service on its Messenger feature.

Uber drivers will be ready to pick up partiers who request a ride using Messenger. Users tap an address to order a ride, or use the car icon on the bottom of a chat window. Messenger will provide the updates from the driver.

If you are new to Uber, you will get a $20 credit the first time you use the service through Facebook Messenger.

This is the first transportation partnership for Facebook, which currently has more than one billion users.

Messenger users will have to update their apps if their phones have not already done so.
