Fire crews living with no heat in Detroit firehouse

DETROIT (FOX 2) - Fire crews working out of a firehouse in Detroit have been without heat during the deep freeze in Southeast Michigan.
What we know:
The group of firefighters works at Detroit's Firehouse Engine 55, Ladder 27, and have had to live without heat in their part of the building.
Cell phone video from Engine 55 on Joy Road near the Southfield Freeway on the city's west side, shows the crew using space heaters and plastic on the windows. But even then, curtains could be seen flapping in the windows from the brisk outside breeze.
FOX 2 took the video to the president of Detroit Firefighters Union, Thomas Gehart, to verify the fact that the second floor of Engine 55 has no heat other than the space heaters. This floor is where the firefighters live.
What's next:
FOX 2 reached out to the city’s construction and demolition department to see if we could get some answers.
They wrote:
"The safety and comfort of our firefighters is paramount. As we face low temperatures, our contractors are working to complete these repairs at Engine 55 as quickly as possible. Temporary heaters are in place. Replacement radiators were ordered three weeks ago, and installation is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. The building’s aging systems present unique challenges, requiring complex repairs and specialized parts, equipment, and manpower. These operations take time, and we are fully committed to getting the job done right."
Firefighters said, ironically, space heaters cause fires. Officials say they promise to keep the heat on.
