Firefighter injured at apartment fire in Detroit

A firefighter suffered minor injuries on the job Wednesday morning while fighting a fire on Detroit's west side.

The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. at a four-family flat near Dexter Avenue and Monterey Street. Detroit Fire Department Captn. Brian Cleland says the firefighter was on a stairway when it collapsed.

The firefighter has back and neck pain, but we're told did not suffer any serious or life-threatening injuries.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire but the power was on, so authorities do not believe the building was abandoned. Arson investigators are on scene.
