Former Inkster officer accused of beating driver due in court
(WJBK) - A former Inkster police officer who is accused of beating a man during a traffic stop is expected in court Thursday for a pre-trial hearing.
William Melendez has been charged with felony assault and misconduct in office in connection with the beating of Floyd Dent back in January.
The alleged incident can be seen on police dash cam video, and the city has reached a $1.3 million settlement with Dent.
Melendez denies any wrongdoing.
His trial is set to begin next Monday.
