Four men sentenced for killing Flint man protecting his wife during break-in

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Four young men have been sentenced in the fatal shooting of a 63-year-old Michigan man who was protecting his wife during a home break-in.

April Bigelow told Genesee Circuit Court Judge Elizabeth Kelly that her father Albert Ballard "fought for what was right." She says he was "was out-numbered and out-matched."

Ballard was shot in July 2017 after five men entered his Flint home.

The Flint Journal reports Jordan William Alexander, Zicary Lamar Carpenter, Tyler Jameil Pagel and Joshua Jeremiah Eubanks were all sentenced Monday to at least 23 years in prison.

Alexander, who got life in prison without parole for murder, denied killing Ballard and said the "entire situation is a tragedy." The others apologized.

A fifth man Dre Shavon Jones earlier was sentenced to at least 27 years.
