Grammy Foundation hosts a night with Detroit's Iggy Pop and Don Was

(WJBK) - A large crowd showed up at the Majestic Theater on Woodward on Sunday night to see two Michigan music legends.

Iggy Pop and Don Was performed in a show called Living Histories Live: A discussion with Iggy Pop and Don Was.

Was went to Oak Park High and then on to the University of Michigan. He led the 1980s funk rock band Was (Not Was).

The Emmy-winning producer also worked with many other artists, including The Rolling Stones, producing their best-selling albums Voodoo Lounge, Striped, Bridges to Babylon, Forty Licks, Live Licks and A Bigger Bang.

He also produced music for Iggy Pop.

Iggy Pop was born in Muskegon and also attended the University of Michigan.

He saw The Doors perform at the University of Michigan in 1967 and said that show inspired him.

The next year, Iggy Pop came out with the punk band The Stooges.

Detroit area musicians influenced by Was and Iggy Pop also performed at the theater.

They said it was an honor to play in front of the two who helped influence their careers.
