Hazing. assault allegations spark protests at Fordson High School

DEARBORN, Mich. (WJBK) - Students and community members are outraged over claims of hazing and assault at a Dearborn High School as allegations prompted protests over the weekend.

Protests were held Sunday night stemming from an incident that allegedly happened in the boys locker room involving JV football members.

FOX 2 has been told the incident did not involve rape, but we have learned it was unwanted sexual conduct. Students are upset because they say this should have never happened in the first place, and believe the school district has been attempting to cover it up.

The district did put out a statement to the community and media later in the week, but information about the incident did not come to light until Thursday. The alleged incident happened on Monday.

Protests were held Sunday night but students had attempted to protest Friday of last week, but students were told they could face suspension.

"The school really didn't do enough. They didn't call it what it was. They tried to cover up the whole incident. Notes could have been sent home ... saying that they were taking care of the situation but none of that ever happened," said Fordson alumnus Ghazeer Ankouni.

The school district is working with the Dearborn Police Department to determine if any charges should be filed at this point. Students involved have been identified and are being disciplined.

Both varsity and JV football teams say this is no reflection on them - they do not condone what happened.
