Heavily armed gunmen rob Harper Woods gas station on camera
HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WJBK) - Terrifying moments inside a Harper Woods gas station as two men hold up the cashier at gunpoint.
The suspects got away with a lot of cash - but not before surveillance cameras got a look at them.
"They wanted to scare people, to do harm, to rob," said Det. Sgt. James Ruthenberg, Harper Woods police.
Harper woods police on the hunt for these guys 6 a.m. Tuesday-- the men ran into this Citgo Gas station on Harper.
"These guys come in, they're masked up, gloved up," Ruthenberg said. "They mean business."
One man was armed with a rifle-style gun with a drum magazine that can hold a lot of ammunition.
"The other one is a handgun with an extended magazine, which also holds more ammunition which is obviously dangerous," he said.
With their guns raised, the men yell at the clerk and demanded money.
"He gave up the money, it is property, it is replaceable, obviously your life is not," Ruthenberg said. "He did the right thing and listened to the suspects."
FOX 2: "You can see one of the suspects holding the door open."
"Correct, they may have done this before," he said. "They know some types of businesses lock the doors if something is going on to call the police. One suspect is seen holding the door open so that door doesn't lock."
The two men were seen running away with cash toward Alstead street in Detroit.
Now the owner of the Citgo says that terrified clerk quit his job. Police worried what these two men are capable of, convinced they won't stop until they're caught.
