How to handle the holidays

It is time to start enjoying the holiday season but if you are struggling with your weight or worried about it, how do you make those two come together?

Grace Derocha, a registered dietician from Blue Cross Blue Shield says that annually from Thanksgiving to New Year's that people gain an average of 1 to 5 pounds.

"It doesn't sound like a lot, but it pounds that stick and stay with us," she said. "So I tell people don't worry about weight loss, let's try not to gain weight. Set some realistic goals.

"I tell people do whatever is going to help them, because it is going to be case by case."

Grace says that is easy to consider are getting your water in, some fruits and vegetables because there are those holiday parties where there are "extra fun treats."

The goals for handling the holidays are:

-Be reasonable

-Enjoy yourself

-Practice portion control

-Move more

-Sleep more
