I-75 Warren overpass damaged by semi-truck; alt routes advised

Southbound I-75 is closed Wednesday morning at I-94 so crews can make emergency repairs. The repairs are needed after the Warren Avenue bridge was hit and damaged by a semi truck Tuesday afternoon.

The outside beam was hit by the truck, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The first beam on the bridge was damaged that held up the sign. The construction Wednesday will remove that outside beam.

"There are 34 beams that support this bridge, so, taking one of 34 - it's still a very safe bridge," says Diane Cross with MDOT. "In fact, Warren Ave traffic can still drive on the bridge while we're working on it, but we can't have southbound traffic drive underneath."

Work began at 5 a.m. and is expected through the afternoon. MDOT couldn't elaborate on a timeline for when the work will be finished.

Alternate routes include M-10, M-1/Woodward, Gratiot, and Grand River.
