Inkster family without consistent heat for more than a month

An Inkster family has been living without consistent heat for more than a month now.

Even though it was winter, it wasn't terrible. Then the polar winds dipped below the arctic circle.

"They gave us two spaceheaters, and we've just been packed in a room. In one room, in my bedroom," said Krystal Cheeks.

Cheeks is mother to five girls. With the furnace broken, the pipes frozen and cockroaches infesting the residence, Cheek's daughters say they used to be proud of the house they moved into.

"I was proud, but now I'm kind of surprised. Like this is bad," said Nazeria Stewart.

The property is an Inkster Housing Commission house. An official with the department said they are hoping to have Cheek's family moved by next week.
