Kasich, Sanders making campaign stops in Michigan

(WJBK) - Two presidential hopefuls will be in Michigan this President's Day. Our primary is still more than three weeks away, but candidates are already focusing on our votes.

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will be speaking in Ypsilanti and Dearborn, while Republican presidential candidate John Kasich will be in Utica this evening and Livonia on Tuesday.

His first rally will be at the Convocation Hall at Eastern Michigan University. The doors there open at 12:30 p.m. with his speech beginning at 2:30 p.m. FOX 2's Roop Raj was there early Monday morning and some EMU students were already lining up. The event is free but admission is first-come, first-serve.

After EMU, Sanders will head to Dearborn where he will speak to the United Auto Workers Local 600 later Monday evening. This event is by invite only.

The Ohio Gov. will make a few stops while he is in town over the next two days.

Kasich, 63, will hold a town hall meeting in Ottawa County at 10 a.m. followed by a town hall at Michigan State University at 3:30 p.m. Around metro Detroit, he is holding a town hall meeting in Utica at 6:30 p.m. at the Macomb County GOP headquarters on Hall Road.

Then, on Tuesday morning, Kasich will host a town hall for Oakland and Wayne counties at 10 a.m. It will be at the Livonia GOP field office on Seven Mile Rd.

This is his first stop in Michigan since last November when he visited Macomb County and downtown Detroit. Kasich is coming off a second-place finish in the New Hampshire primary election last week. He finished with 16 percent of the vote, behind businessman Donald Trump who finished in first with over 35 percent.
