Man, 10-year-old girl killed in crash

DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit police are working to learn what caused a crash late Sunday night that killed two people, including a 10-year-old girl.

The crash happened at the intersection of Glendale and Linwood on the city's west side. Shattered glass was still littered on the streets several hours later.

The crash happened just before midnight on Sunday, so police are very much still in the early stages of their investigation.

At this point, they say a Toyota near the intersection was rear ended by another car. The force practically wrapped the Toyota around a utility pole.

The 53-year-old driver died, and twin 10-year-old girls were in the car with him. Police say one of those girls also passed away and the other remains in critical condition.

We are told the car that hit them then rolled over, resulting in minor injuries.

A third vehicle was also clipped during the deadly collision. The people inside, though, were just shaken up.

Those who saw the mangled cars hours later still cannot believe their eyes.

"I never seen anything like that. I've heard of them on the news but something like that is awfully hard to watch," says Terance Rudolph, who saw the aftermath.

A man who tried to help the victims also spoke to FOX 2.

"We heard the accident. As soon as we seen it and we ran down and tried to help get out of the cars and stuff. It was so bad," Kenny Melton told us.

"You just knew by looking at the vehicles that something terrible had happened. It's just senseless things like this have to happen," says a witness, who did not want to be identified.

Right now investigators are trying to figure out what caused the crash.
