Man arrested after shooting father dead, hurting mother during argument over car: police

A 35-year-old man is in custody after police say he shot his parents Wednesday morning during an argument over his car, Detroit police say.

The father was killed in the shooting and the 64-year-old mother was injured but is expected to be okay.

The shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. in the 20000 block of Grandview, which is near 8 Mile and Telegraph.

Police say the mother told them her son got angry at them because he thought they did something to his car. While they were upstairs in a bedroom, he pulled out a gun and shot them both.

The father was shot twice in the head and died at the house. The mother was shot in her side and taken to the hospital. Their son was standing in the driveway when police arrived.

Police have towed the car at the center of the argument.

Police say another family member was called, and that she told police her brother has a history of mental illness and that he lived at the home with their parents.

The 35-year-old was cooperative during the arrest.
