Man charged in retired University of Michigan professor's murder
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WJBK) - A 29-year-old man has been charged in the murder of retired University of Michigan professor Robert Sharp's murder.
Isom Hamilton of Ypsilanti has been charged with homicide (open murder), armed robbery, first-degree arson, home invasion and mutilation of a dead body.
According to Ann Arbor police, Sharp was found dead in the basement of his home on Alpine Drive on June 12 while police were conducting a welfare check. The 76-year-old professor taught chemistry for 39 years until retiring in 2008.
Police say the suspect had started a fire to burn evidence after the crime. They confirm he was a loose acquaintance of the victim.

Hamilton was denied bond and is scheduled to appear next in court on July 12.
