Man shot at point blank range in Detroit driveway failed carjacking
DETROIT (WJBK) - Detroit Police are trying to track down a man who shot the driver of a pickup truck he was trying carjack last month.
It happened on February 19, around noon, as a 48-year-old man was backing out of a Detroit driveway.
Video shows the man backing a gray Ford F-150 out of the driveway in the 300 block of Chalmers. In the video, you can see another vehicle drive down the street. That driver stops at the driveway, runs out with a gun in his hand, and runs toward the pickup truck.
The suspect approached the car and fired several shots at the driver at point blank range. The driver was trying to speed away from the suspect before he was shot.
After being shot, his foot landed on the gas pedal and he crashed into the house.
The suspect then runs back to the car and escapes south on Chalmers.
The driver of the truck was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.
The suspect is described as a black man, between 35 and 40 years old, 5'7", thin build, and driving a black Chevy Suburban. The SUV has duct tape on the driver's side mirror, tinted windows, temp sticker in the rear window and one brake light out.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
