Man used pocket knife in St. Patrick's Day stabbing at Sterling Heights pub

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) - A St. Patrick's Day celebration gets out of hand in Sterling Heights when a fight leads to a stabbing inside Dooley's on Hall Road.

Police say the suspect, a Harrison Township man, stole from a 49-year-old woman, then stabbed her 48-year-old boyfriend at 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

The 34-year-old suspect is being charged with felony assault, and larceny.

"One guy pulled a knife and stabbed the other gentleman," said Marc Chamberlain, manager. "Within seconds our security had everybody outside and everybody taken care of."

The bar was crowded, and the suspect, who was also with his girlfriend, agreed to share a table with another couple.

The four appeared to be getting along, before police say the suspect reached into the 49-year-old woman's unattended purse stealing her money and credit cards.

When her boyfriend confronted him about it, things escalated. First there was a fight, then, the suspect stabbed his accuser in the arm and chest with a pocket knife.

"We'd like to think Sterling Heights Police Department for doing a great job, being here quickly and on time, making sure no one else got seriously hurt or injured," Chamberlain said.

Chamberlain said he is relieved to know the man stabbed is expected to survive - but disappointed in the person who did this.

"We apologize for the incident and hopefully nothing like this will ever happen again," he said.
