Missing Lansing mother found, arrested days after newborn found dead

The mother of a newborn baby out of Lansing who was found dead last week has been located, Lansing police said Thursday morning, and has been taken into custody.

An endangered missing advisory had been issued for the 35-year-old woman, Ashley Shade, and her 6-day-old child earlier this month. Then the next day, the body of the newborn was found in an abandoned car in downtown Lansing.

That was back on March 19, and police had still been working to locate Shade.

Lansing police say Shade was arrested without incident in North Lansing on multiple outstanding previous criminal charges from several jurisdictions.

Authorities haven't given any further details yet about the death of the baby.
