Motorcyclist killed from hit and run in Warren

A motorcyclist is killed in Warren when a car slams into him that vehicle then leaving him for dead -- speeding off down the road.

But police quickly took two suspects into custody. At 4 a.m. Wednesday authorities say a car westbound on Eight Mile went through a red light and crashed into a motorcycle driving north on Groesbeck. 

"They hit the motorcyclist, who died at the scene, it was a pretty horrible accident," said Warren Mayor Jim Fouts.

The motorcyclist was a 35-year-old man from Warren. The driver of the car was 18 years old and his passenger just 23.  But then the two young men panicked.

"The 18-year-old said I'm out of here and he ran toward Detroit," Fouts said. "The 23-year-old did argue with him but decided to flee."

And flee they did. Warren police gave chase on the foot, south on Groesbeck into a Detroit neighborhood about a mile from the accident, to "Mama Kim."

"He comes here, tries to break into my house to hide," she said.

FOX 2: "Were you nervous?"

"I wasn't, I have three pit bulls (and) an alarm system," she said.

And that's where Warren Police nabbed one of the suspect and within minutes, the other one.

The driver will be charged with running a red light causing death but both the driver and the passenger will be charged with leaving the scene.

"The result is a terrible fatality which obviously has an adverse effect on all concerned," Fouts said.
